Qurban 2023

Muslim Global Aids’ Qurban Project is an annual initiative that provides meat to the less fortunate during Eid al-Adha. In 2022, the project successfully distributed meat to those in need in Lebanon, Sudan, and Australia, including Syrian refugees, flood-affected families, and homeless and refugee communities. This success was due to the hard work and dedication of volunteers and donors. In 2023, the project aims to expand its reach and make an even greater impact with the support of donors and volunteers.  

Why Lebanon?

We distribute in Lebanon to provide aid to the poor and needy of Lebanon, including Syrian refugees who lack access to food due to displacement and conflict. The meat distribution during Eid al-Adha offers a valuable source of nutrition for refugees who are living in difficult conditions.

Why Sudan? 

We distributed meat in Sudan to support families affected by floods and natural and political disasters. Many of these families are struggling to access food and other basic necessities. The distribution of meat during Eid al-Adha provides them with much-needed nutrition and helps improve their overall well-being.

What is Qurban?

Qurban, also known as Udhiya, is a significant practice in Sunni Islam that takes place during the annual festival of Eid al-Adha. The practice involves the sacrifice of an animal, usually a sheep, goat, or cow, in remembrance of the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail in obedience to God’s command. According to Islamic tradition, God replaced Ismail with a ram at the last moment, and this act of substitution is celebrated through the Qurban sacrifice.Β 

The Qurban sacrifice is typically performed by individuals or groups in the most humane way possible, and the meat is divided into three parts: one for the individual or group performing the sacrifice, one for family and friends, and one for those in need. The distribution of the meat to the less fortunate is considered an act of charity and generosity, and it is an essential part of the Qurban practice.Β 

Overall, Qurban is a symbol of sacrifice, obedience, and charity, and it plays a significant role in the religious and social life of Sunni Muslims around the world.Β
